How do we teach Indeginous students about FNMI if they were stripped away from the culture?

I've thought about this too Talia, I don't think it's a simple answer but hopefully at our future schools we will have the community resources and someone like David that can guide us to teaching those students in a sensitive manner.

This is such a tough question. Tread carefully. Let them know that there are FNMI support staff who they can talk to, even introduce them to your FNMI support staff, but don't be forceful. Just give them the option. Also, and this is a very grey area in my mind, but in some situations it may be appropriate to reach out to their family. Again, tread VERY carefully when doing this. Get to know the child and family before you ask them for supports for their child. But also, it is good ot know how far the parents want you to dive into those topics as well.
