For many years Indigenous resources have been extremely limited and often times miss represented. In the last few years there has been progress in some classrooms to include an Indigenous voice and point of view. While looking for resources I came across these videos where viewers will hear and see the voices of young Indigenous children teaching about their history. In the videos we hear traditional stories and what really caught my attention was how they often say a word in English then translate the word into Cree or Blackfoot. This small examples reminds me of the many different poems that were read in class that included Indigenous words along side. Specifically the poem “Ill teach you Cree” by Gregory Scofield. This poem begins to help readers understand how important it is to keep Indigenous languages alive. While languages were traditionally passed down orally and many were lost during over the years, using resources like these poems and videos will help begin to bring them back and help keep them strong.
