Thomas King talks about stereotypes we have on Aborginal people. A recent incident that left the country shocked and mourning, was the Sanderson brothers who stabbed and killed 10 people and injured many more. Neither brother survived the manhunt so we don’t know the root cause of this terrifying event but we do know that some of the victims were singled out.

It is unfortunate that the takeaway from this incident is the color of their skin and not the fact that they were in a state of mental distress. Mental health needs to be taken more seriously. Especially in reserves where living conditions are subpar at best. And maybe if we worked on the root cause, we could help prevent this sort of devastating event from ever taking place again.
