A theme that has been prominent throughout several of our readings this semester has been racial discrimination and othering of Indigenous peoples. This has been an issue that has gone on for a long time; for example, Zitkala-Sa being ridiculed as a child in residential school and Thomas King explaining how the government has tried to irradicate Indigenous peoples. While we no longer have residential schools or laws being passed to take land away or murder Indigenous peoples, deeply seeded racism is still happening today. In fact, the tragic story I have highlighted was posted just yesterday.

The article I have chosen is about a Cree woman from Edmonton who lost her infant child due to lack of proper medical treatment in an Edmonton hospital. Furthermore, the entire ordeal this mother went through was inhumane, cold, and unacceptable treatment for any human being. Heartbreaking tragedies like this are all too common (many times in our healthcare system) and should not be tolerated.
