I was interested in this topic because my cousin Shayla is the founder of the Matriarch Movement, and I thought this news article pertained to the course because it is largely about how Indigenous peoples can fit into today's society. Moreover, the MM is a non-profit organization that provides wellness workshops and provide an online platform for Indigenous peoples suffering from generational trauma who may not otherwise have access to it. It is great to see young Indigenous people in modern society advocating for healing and wellness and being voices for victims who lost their voices due to generations of mistreatment from the Canadian government. Additionally, having young people like this in the media can begin to change stereotypes that many people still hold against Indigenous people in Canadian society.
