Many people I believe have minimal knowledge on Indigenous people and what has occurred in the past and is still happening today. It would be very powerful to have an educated society that understands the history behind the Indigenous community because it will change the perspectives many people have as well as create more respect for Indigenous individuals as well as it can make days like the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada much more meaningful. Below is a news article that talks about how non-Indigenous people can respectfully observe this day and what the message is behind it. I will also list a link that leads to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Reports, each opens to a PDF that talks about the history of residential schools, survivors, calls to action as well as honouring the truth and reconciling for the Future and many more. What can we each do to inform ourselves and those around us?
