ATA Elder Protocol

ATA Elder Protocol

The ATA has developed a document that outlines the protocol that should be followed when inviting an Elder, Knowledge Keeper, or Cultural Advisor to an event. This document is also useful for teachers when they are inviting these people into their classrooms. Take a look:
https://www.teachers.ab.ca/SiteCollectionDocuments/ATA/For%20Members/ProfessionalDevelopment/Walking%20Together/PD-WT-16g%20-%20Elder%20Protocol.pdf
This document outlines who is an elder, how to include elders, ways to contact elders, preparing and presenting offerings, and so much more. I highly recommend that every educator reviews this document before they invite an Elder, Knowledge Keeper, or Cultural Advisor into their classroom. It has an abundance of useful information, and it teaches others how to honour and respect these guests in our classrooms and at our events.

This is a great find!
Finding a place to start and knowing who to ask and where to begin and how to go about asking can be super scary and intimidating. Love that there is a protocol and resources available for us.
