Call for Resources

First Contact is an APTN documentary that takes 6 Canadians on a 28 days journey to challenge their perspectives on indigenous culture. The 6 participants biases and prejudices are challenged as they experience true indigenous people in their everyday lives. The particiapnts are changed forever. The documentary series are more appropriate for high school students.

This is a great authentic Indigenous resource evaluation list for K-7. It includes a description of each resource (for example, it will give an overview of the story in the book), as well as curricular areas, themes and topics covered by each resource. It even includes author and illustrator background information (namely, which Indigenous group(s) they belong to), as well as number of pages, reading level, and any other key features of the resource (for example, if the text is in both English and Cree, if there are sensitive topic warnings, if it comes with a glossary, if it's a book suitable for a "first novel", if the resource intertwines facts and fiction). This would be an awesome place to gather ideas for adding Indigenous resources to a classroom library.

For teachers of French immersion, this document is in French. This is an Indigenous resource list that includes many links to informative sites and documents. The list lincludes links to teaching resouces, maps, vocabulary sheets, radio stations, books/novels for the classroom, music albums, teacher resource books, Indigenous poets and poetry, links to film/television programs and series, activities and celebrations, articles, essays, documentaries, cookbooks, as well as pages of links to other online resource sites. This document also includes links to English resources as well. This document is packed with links to such rich content, it is definitely worth checking out, even for teachers who do not speak French!

This is a website with a whole bunch of short stories written by and about Indigenous people. It additionlly includes lesson plans and ideas that you can use to create lessons for younger grades.

This is a website which has multiple resources and tools to help integrate Indigenous learning into every other subject. This is super helpful for lesson planning and helps naturally integrate it rather than trying to force it and have students learn nothing.

This blog/website it amazing for Nunavet resources. There are some cool first hand videos that tell the srtories from people who have lived in these cultures.

This resource will direct you to a collection of 48 books by Indigenous writers to help students (and adults) learn about residential schools in Canada.
