Inclusion in learning activities

Inclusion in learning activities

Wondering if anyone has tips for planning for inclusion of indigenous students who may be affected by the content being covered in an activity centered around an indigenous concept or indigenous history. For example I have a particular student, I can see them opting out of participation when they have to share their thoughts or feelings - should I let them sit out? Or what can I do to make them feel like their opinions are valid?

I think that in a situation where you have to share thoughts and feelings on an Indigenous topic, a sharing circle would be appropriate. It would allow that student to respectfully pass, or may encourage them to participate once they see that it is a safe place.
