Teaching in the remote North is not the same as other places. Education may not be in the fore front of responsabilities. survival comes first, so you never want to enter a community thinking you are going to change the way the community opperates. you need to adapt to the commuinity, then you can implement programs to help. relizing generationaltrauma is still felt in many communities, do not walk in heavy handed be respectful, and learn the ways of the community. join in the communities traditional activities and events to build relationships.

One of the lessons learned through the film study is the importance of effective relationships with students. Before the teacher had built relationships, the students were disrespectful and not engaged with any material being instructed. By making an effort to learn more about students personal lives and customs of the community, mutual respect is more easily established.
