Lessons Learned
-the power of community was highlighted. Community is the way to build positive, supportive relationships.
-importance of working together, as a teacher to inspire youth to push through tough times
-strength is born out of friendship and family
-inspired me to advocate for the mental health of Inuit youth as well as promote overall mental health for all students
-learned about the history of trauma, residential schools, and colonization and learnt what we need to do as a nation to start supporting Indigenous communities
-important to encourage cultural community values and cultural knowledge
-teach with a learner-centered teaching approach for all students, important to understanding a students background will impact education
-"We Matter" is the only youth-led Indigenous mental health organization in Canada with the basis of "hope, strength, and culture" which is a great message to incorporate in your own classroom
